Tokyo Creative Week 2011
During 11 days, Tokyo transforms itself into a showcase venue for traditional and contemporary culture. A rich programme of visual arts, performing arts, design, music, and film, is scheduled to run alongside workshops and talks. Several events dedicated to the Tohoku region will take place, including "Future Sketch" and "Tokyo-Fukushima" a community-based initiative that comprises concerts, a symposium, and networking activities in the field of urban development. Debates on the role of culture in disaster relief will also be held during the creative week. An “International Visitors Program” is also to take place to invite young and perceptive professionals such as directors, curators, critics and journalists from around the world. In addition to providing a place for networking with those with similar interests, the purpose of the programme is to have the participants observe the current state of culture in Tokyo including the activities of the Tokyo Culture Creation Project and disseminate their observations and assessment in their own countries. The Tokyo Creative Week is held in the framework of the Tokyo Culture Creation Project. The project organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture in cooperation with arts organizations and NPOs, aims to establish Tokyo as a city of global cultural creativity. The project facilitates involvement of a larger number of people in creation of new culture, by building regional bases for culture creation across the city and offering opportunities for creative experiences to children and young people. It creates and globally disseminates new Tokyo culture through organizing international festivals and other events.Similar content
