UNESCO ResiliArt debate - Artists and Creativity beyond Crisis

Join the launch UNESCO ResiliArt debate on culture in the face of COVID-19. The session is on 15 April at 14h Paris time. The ResiliArt debate, which takes place on World Art Day, will explore the far-reaching impact of COVID-19 on artists and aim to provide solutions to strengthen the creative sector’s resilience.

The global health crisis has created a cultural emergency. All cultural institutions are closed in 128 countries, and mostly closed in 32 more. Many artists and cultural professionals are suffering without a safety of unemployment benefits or insurance.

UNESCO's ResiliArt movement gives them a voice of resilience.

Highly recognized artists will address a wide range of topics, from how they stay connected with their public using available technologies to the current state of their respective artistic discipline. They will also share recommendations to help decision-makers and private enterprises develop suitable policies and financial mechanisms to assist artists recovering from this difficult period and enhance the resilience of creative expressions.

The debate will be opened by Audrey Azoulay, UNESCO Director-General, and moderated by the UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Culture, Ernesto Ottone R., and Jean-Michel Jarre (Composer, President of CISAC, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador), with panelists: Angélique KIDJO (Singer-songwriter), Deeyah KHAN (Musician, documentary film director, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador), Luis PUENZO (Film director, screenwriter, producer and President of INCAA), Nina OBULJEN-KORŽINEK (Violinist and Minister of Culture of Croatia), and Yasmina KHADRA (Author). They will answer tailored questions while engaging in a dialogue and building and reacting to other panelists’ responses.
