The Organization Committee of the Cheongju International Craft Biennale selected one grand prize winner, 4 gold prize winners, 6 silver prize winners, 5 bronze prize winners, 8 special prize winners and 161 prize winners among 185 works in the final evaluation, which passed the first screening on July 13th and 14th.
The evaluation was focused on novelty and artistic values. The artworks’ aesthetic values, emotional values, simplicity and genuine necessity were evaluated regardless of entry fields.
Judge Stephan von der Schuleburg said, “Longing for something new and splendid causes crisis in human civilization. Therefore, it is necessary to go back and think about what we really need.” He also unveiled evaluation standards that he selected reflecting such ideas. He added, “As it is held in Korea, artworks which pursue Korean beauty such as simplicity and grandness earned many points.”
