Workshop | Art+Feminism: Wikipedia Edit-a-thon 2022

Asia Art Archive and M+ are once again organising the online ‘Art+Feminism: Wikipedia Edit-a-thon’ workshop, 26 March 2022, to improve the representation of women and non-binary artists on Wikipedia.

Organised with assistance from the Wikimedia Community User Group in Hong Kong, the event brings participants together to discuss, share, create and improve Wikipedia articles to address the underrepresentation of art and visual culture in Asia. It is part of the international initiative Art+Feminism that strives to close information gaps related to gender, feminism, and the arts.

This is part of an ongoing collaboration that holds two Wikipedia edit-a-thons per year:

  • March: participants develop Wikipedia articles about women artists in and from Asia
  • November: participants focus on exhibitions in and about Asia to enrich art histories in the region

Since 2018, when the event was first held, there have been eight workshops with more than 200 participants, who created or improved more than 150 articles.

The free event will be held online via Zoom (2–5pm Hong Kong time).

The tutorial will be conducted in English, and there will be team members to assist with Cantonese-speaking participants.

Those who cannot attend on the day can still contribute anytime from 26 March to 3 April, and the Wikipedia event dashboard will record the contribution of everyone enrolled as an editor.
