World's top 100 museums and galleries

[The Art Newspaper] Visitor Figures 2012 exhibition & museum attendance survey
  • Each year The Art Newspaper conducts an international survey of museum attendance. It lists the top 100 museums and galleries by visitor numbers.
In 2012 the Louvre in Paris took top spot with almost ten million visitors.  Seven Asia-Europe Museum Network members appeared in the top 100 list with a combined total of almost twenty million visitors: [3rd] British Museum, London5,575,946 visitors [11th] Victoria & Albert Museum, London, 3,231,700 visitors [12th] National Museum of Korea, Seoul, 3,128,550 visitors [15th] National Folk Museum of Korea, Seoul, 2,640,264 visitors [19th] Shanghai Museum, Shanghai, 1,944,820 visitors [20th] National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh, 1,893,521 visitors [37th] Musée du Quai Branly, Paris, 1,310,148 visitors
