WOWXBBC Festival

Join the WOWxBBC Festival on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 May – the first ever WOW – Women of the World Festival to take place online!

WOW has been working with BBC Arts on this brand new international festival as part of its Culture in Quarantine season and will feature speakers and performers including Jude Kelly, Maxine Peake, Julia Gillard, Emma Dabiri, Sandi Toksvig, Rebecca Solnit,  Gemma Cairney, Kieran Yates, Nihal Arthanayake, Liz Carr and loads more.

Over two days, there are talks, sports, workshops and stories from the serious to the joyful. There’s everything from the Great Big WOW Quiz and emergency haircut workshops through to serious discussions on domestic abuse, care, and the devastating social and economic consequences for women and girls the pandemic is having.

The programme includes a discussion between former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard and The WOW Foundation’s Founder and Director Jude Kelly, on whether women’s leadership is able to bring fresh approaches to the economic and social challenges we face, with special insights from writer and broadcaster Afua Hirsch and climate activist and geographer Hindou Ibrahim.

The WOW Foundation works in partnership with amazing women and organisations to create WOW festivals across the world. In the past decade, the WOW movement has grown from its London beginnings to find homes everywhere from Beijing and Kathmandu to Baltimore and Brisbane. To date, there have been over 80 festivals and events across six continents, reaching more than two million people

All events will be available to watch at bbc.co.uk/arts
