The wrong biennale 2022 – online digital art event

The wrong biennale, featuring digital art, translates the traditional biennale experience to an online space. Presented online until 1 May 2022, it was created by Spanish artist and curator David Quiles Guilló and has a philosophy of decentralised global practice and open access.

The biennale attracts artists from all over the world, presenting work both online and in person. The current 5th edition involves more than 2,000 artists and curators and more than 120 pavilions and embassies. With a flexible format, the biennial is open to new embassies, pavilions and artists to join until the last day. There are also ongoing calls from the participating pavilions.

There are two modes of viewing work at the biennale: through an online 'pavilion' or an in-person 'embassy'. A pavilion is a dedicated website, or any other online format, organised by an artist, a curator or team of curators, to host artworks by 10 artists or more. An embassy is an exhibition, a public event or a series of public events happening in a physical location, organised by an artist, a curator or team of curators, featuring artwork by five artists or more.

The wrong biennale also has its own tv channel, and every pavilion and embassy can showcase its concept and artworks as a linear tv experience.

Since the 2013, more than 8,000 artists and curators have officially participated in the wrong biennale and it has a very large audience, given its open access, online format.
