RCE Youth Art Challenge 2023: From waste to art

The Global RCE Service Centre at the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS), in partnership with UNESCO, is now accepting submissions for the RCE Youth Art Challenge: From Waste to Art, open to anyone aged 35 or younger worldwide.

The challenge is designed to demonstrate how local communities are working to achieve sustainable consumption and production. Entries should show the actions the local community is taking, with a focus on SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).  

Submissions

Any art medium can be utilised, including paintings, drawings, photos, sketches, digital art, sculptures, handicrafts, murals and more. Submissions that use locally sourced waste (e.g. e-waste, plastic, paper) are particularly welcome. 

All submissions should be static (no animations) and limited to one frame/image of the artwork. In addition to the artwork, applicants will be asked to include a title and short statement to explain the submission. They may also include a video of the final product or work in progress.

Submissions will be evaluated across the following age categories:

• 15 years and under
• 16-25 years
• 26-35 years

Eligibility

• Participants must be aged 35 or younger 
• Entries are limited to 3 entries per participant
• The artwork must not have previously been submitted for another contest
• The artwork must be the participant’s original work
• Corporations are ineligible for this contest
