Toyota Foundation 2024 International Grant Programme

The Toyota Foundation is calling for applications for collaborative projects from East Asia, Southeast Asia, and South Asia for their grant programme entitled ‘Cultivating Empathy Through Learning from Our Neighbours: Practitioners' Exchange on Common Issues in Asia’. 

The grant programme focuses on deepening mutual understanding and knowledge-sharing among people on the ground in East Asia, Southeast Asia, and South Asia who are finding solutions to shared issues. Through promoting direct interaction among key players, the grant programme aims to survey and analyse situations in target countries, obtain new perspectives, and expand the potential of future generations.

Projects are required to:

  • identify issues and conduct a review by surveying and analysing the situation in target countries;
  • carry out activities aimed at providing solutions to issues; and 
  • produce and disseminate tangible output.

The project period can be one year (November 2024 – October 2025) or two years (November 2024 – October 2026). 

Eligibility

Diverse team based in multiple target countries can apply. Team members could include those with practical experience and knowledge on addressing issues in the target countries, such as practitioners, researchers, creators, policy makers, and journalists and other media representatives.

As the aim of this grant is to share knowledge and deepen mutual understanding about the common issues in Asia, projects must be conducted in two or more of the target countries. In addition to two or more target countries, project may also include additional countries not specified above. It is not mandatory to include Japan, although the project representative must have a contact address in Japan.

Support

Grants for one-year projects can be a maximum of 5,000,000 JPY and two-year projects to a maximum of 10,000,000 JPY.
