Asian Connection (Nov. 2006): Thai Cinema
In 2004, Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s Cannes Grand Jury Prize for “TROPICAL MALADY” and action movie Ong Bak’s incredible international success have put the country of smiles under the spotlight. These are only a few examples of the country’s full cinematographic richness. Deeply rooted in Thailand’s culture, those movies are the result of an important cultural and historical heritage.
We wanted to illustrate the country’s diversity through the collective work of several international writers. A blend of different points of view and analyses, the final result gives a deep insight into Thailand’s cinematography.
Non-exhaustive, the book’s mission is one of initiation and an introduction to further studies; the Thai cinematography’s heritage is full of hidden treasures of the past and others yet to come.
