The Australian Ballet

Founded in 1962, The Australian Ballet is one of the world’s leading ballet companies, and has been delivering performances for over 50 years.

A commitment to excellence, a spirited attack and a willingness to take risks have defined the company from its earliest days, both onstage and off. As well as 70 dancers, the company employs leaders in injury prevention, marketing, music, digital and education to present upwards of 250 shows and 1,000 audience-engagement events each year.  A network of elite artisans work tirelessly behind the scenes to create the splendour you see on stage; our costumes are made with the care given to couture.

Moving between the great classical ballets and new contemporary commissions, the company has a unique Australian beauty, powered by athleticism. The company presents a broad range of repertoire, honouring the traditions of ballet as well as looking towards its future with contemporary works by major Australian and international choreographers, and new commissions that explore the development of this dynamic art form. The Australian Ballet's diverse repertoire reflects the company’s motto: caring for tradition, daring to be different.

Each year, The Australian Ballet presents approximately 200 performances in both cities and regional areas around Australia, and has a long history of high-profile international touring.
