Department of Archeology Bangladesh

The Department of Archaeology Bangladesh is devoted to the reconstruction of the human history through archaeological exploration and excavation, as well as to the preservation of the cultural heritage of the nation. 

At present, the department owns 493 heritage sites, two of which have been inscribed on the World Cultural Heritage Sites. The department also owns 19 site museums, which are the repositories of moveable cultural heritage from different periods, forms, religions, creeds and culture, ranging from prehistory to historical era. The department is the custodian of the national heritage work, under the guidance of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
