The Department Of Arts Sport And Tourism (The Film Unit)

It is the policy of the Department to develop and expand Irish film production in a way that maximises the return to our economy, including employment, and expresses our cultural identity through the medium of film.

The Department:-

1.      Provides funding for and works in close co-operation with the Irish Film Board, which is responsible for the development and promotion of the Irish film industry, and

2.      Operates the tax incentive scheme for investors in film under section 481 of the Taxes Consolidation Act, 1997 (section 481 allows investors to claim tax relief on share subscriptions in qualifying film production companies subject to annual limits on the amount of relief that can be claimed).

The Department also participates at European Union and Council of Europe levels on matters relating to film and television production.

This Department works closely with the Arts Council and the Irish Film Board to secure the implementation of appropriate and effective strategies for the arts in partnership with the artistic community and film industry.
