FILM COOP WUK

In 1968 the association Austrian Filmmakers Cooperative, with artists such as VALIE EXPORT, was formed with the goal of a creating a means of distribution for their own independently produced films in Austria and abroad. Since 1982 the group works under the name (austria) FILM COOP in WUK. The extensive activities of the 60 film and media producers engaged in the association include:

• Supporting independent filmmakers in the areas of production, studios, further education (courses, training);
• Networking, database: design and update of the Austrian Independent Film and Video Database ;
• Film and video rental, distribution of classics and the new avant-garde, select works of international filmmakers and programme compilation;
• Rental of production equipment (projectors, cameras) and studios (cutting room, optical printer, video studio);
• Minority film programmes and series with guests;
• Film and video archive from the project “Die Kunst der Stunde ist Widerstand” (The art of the hour is resistance);
• The project “fem_atic” (feminist approaches in audio-visual media);
• The project “Xenia” (production assistance and development for newcomers, video workshops);
• Old crafts and new books.
