The vision of the JD Centre of Art (JDCA) is to preserve and promote traditional and contemporary art, without boundaries. The centre is being built across the historic Khandagiri caves (2nd century BC) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. The construction of its first phase is ongoing and the JDCA is expected to open to the public in 2017. The Centre has been established by Jatin Das, its Chairman, a contemporary artist conferred with one of India’s highest civilian awards, the. Padma Bhushan. The JD Centre of Art wants to build a living, ever-changing example of sustainable, human-centered design for Odisha, around its diverse collection. The Centre wants to create a space and place for a state-wide conversation about the power of art to transform, sustain, educate and empower. Permanent collection:

• Contemporary Art: Indian and international
• Traditional Arts & Crafts, with an ethnographic collection of over 5,000 objects
• Pankha / Hand fans: over 5,000 hand fans and associated objects
• Films on Art: over 2,000 films
• 20,000 hours of audio and video recording on folk culture of Odisha
• Books on Art: over 8,000 publications
• Recordings of over 200 illustrated lectures on art ("Meet the Artist" lecture series} held at the JDCA over the last 15 years.
