Museum Of Kyoto Film Library Centre

Kyoto is the birthplace of Japan's film industry and at one time was known as 'The Hollywood of Japan'. Since 1971 Kyoto Prefecture has been collecting and preserving materials related to the local film industry. In order to promote understanding of Japanese film directors, the history of the Japanese film industry, and new expressions in films today, the Museum of Kyoto Film Library Centre collects and preserves films, especially Japanese classic films produced in Kyoto, and also screens films from its collection daily on a regular basis. Videocassettes, CD-ROMs and DVDs are also available and can be viewed in the video booths of the Reference Library located in the basement. Posters, still pictures and other materials related to films being shown in the Cinematheque are exhibited in the 3rd Floor Film Gallery.
