National Archives of the Netherlands

As the national memory institution, the Nationaal Archief (National Archives of the Netherlands) is custodian not only for the archives of the national government but also the archives of some social organisations and individuals of national importance.

Additionally, the National Archive also has a large collection of photographs and historical maps. The Archief supplies historical information to a varied public, based upon the content of its collection: the archives related to national government. The Nationaal Archief draws lasting attention to its collection and expertise by cooperating with the countries with which the Netherlands has had historical ties and by actively participating in the international networks of archival institutions.

The international activities of the Nationaal Archief are comprehensive and diverse in terms of content and objectives. The development and exchange of knowledge on the conservation and digitisation of archival material are important activities. Increasing the accessibility of archival material and stimulating the use of archives also play a major role.
