National Film Center

The National Film Center (NFC), which is Japan's sole national facility for the preservation and study of films, is a full member of the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF). NFC collects, preserves, and restores Japanese and foreign films, as well as film-related materials, organizes screening programs, makes film books available to the public in its library, and holds exhibitions of film-related materials in the Exhibition Gallery. The NFC also promotes international cultural exchange through films with members of the FIAF and other organizations. The centre keeps and preserves about 19,000 Japanese and foreign films in its collection (as of March 1998), as well as a range of film-related materials, such as film books, scenarios, posters, and still photographs. It is located at the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo.
