National Museum of Indonesia

The National Museum opened to the public in 1778, is a non-profit organisation managed by the Indonesian Government under the Directorate General of History and Archaeology, the Ministry of Education and Culture. The Museum’s mission is to encourage visitors to witness aspects of Indonesia's cultural heritage and to serve as a centre for research and study.

The museum has an extensive collection of more than 100,000 items in various fields. These include a world-class collection of Chinese ceramics dating back to the Han, Tang and Ming Dynasties, as well as bronze and gold collections from the Indonesian classical period. The museum displays pre-historical and historical aspects of Indonesian culture through its extensive collections of artifacts and relics that date as far back as the Stone Age. It offers an excellent insight to the cultural variety of Indonesia.
