On the Move Cultural Mobility Yearbook 2025

As part of its multiannual programme co-funded by the European Union, On the Move is publishing the fourth edition of the Cultural Mobility Yearbook.
This Yearbook is conceived as a way to delve into the numerous calls and resources that On the Move collects and promotes on a daily basis. It does this primarily through a quantitative and qualitative analysis of calls for participation in residencies, meetings, fellowships, training activities, and other funded mobility opportunities for artists and culture professionals that were published on the On the Move website between 1 January and 31 December 2024 (with a few comparative references to the same data from previous years). In 2024, this is a dataset of 643 calls involving 107 countries and territories as mobility organisers or destinations.
In connection with the Cultural Mobility Forum 2025 (from 29 to 30 April 2025 in Riga, Latvia), a particular focus is put for this year’s edition on the mobility of young and emerging arts workers. Key take-aways include for instance the following data:
- 18.8% of calls published in 2024 were actively open to emerging arts workers and artists were the most common target group.
- The most common cultural field was the performing arts (at 26.7%), followed by visual arts and design (at 23.8%).
- 32.9% of calls were in hybrid or online formats.
- Approximately one third (34.5%) of the calls received EU funding.
