Sutra Dance Theatre Malaysia

A bastion of traditional and contemporary arts, the Sutra Foundation is bequeathed to Malaysia in 2007 by one of its most celebrated sons, Datuk Ramli Ibrahim.

Sutra Foundation strives to develop the breadth and depth of Malaysian performing and visual arts through stimulating the creative spirit of cross-cultural Malaysia. Various cultures come together here to forge a unique 'sutra' bond that fosters a universal yet distinctively Malaysian interpretation of the arts.

The Foundation encompasses Sutra Dance Theatre – where new choreography is crafted and performed. Sutra Dance Theatre was established in 1983 by Ramli Ibrahim to reach out to national and international audience, promoting the cultural diversity and vibrancy of Malaysian dance. Sutra's multi-racial dancers of Malay, Indian, Chinese and mixed races speak well of Dance transcending racial and cultural barriers in Malaysia.

Sutra has collaborated with Malaysian and overseas theatremakers in constume and set design, script, and music. Its activities include performance, exhibitions (Sutra Gallery) and teaching (Sutra Academy).
