The Asia New Zealand Te Whītau Tūhono arts project fund supports New Zealand professional arts companies, events and organisations to deliver projects aiming to grow New Zealanders' awareness and knowledge of Asian arts. Applicants can apply for up to NZD 20,000.

The aim of the Foundation is to provide experiences and resources to help New Zealanders build their knowledge, skills and confidence to thrive in Asia, and they do this through forums, cultural events, international collaborations, school programmes and professional development.

Who can apply?

  • Established New Zealand-based arts organisations with a track record of professional presentation (galleries, festivals, performing arts venues, etc.)
  • Independent New Zealand-based event organisers of high-profile professional arts events, including festival directors, curators or producers
  • Other New Zealand-based professional event organisers who are delivering a professional arts experience to a wide audience (such as local or regional councils)

What kind of projects are supported?

  • The presentation of contemporary professional work from Asia that is aimed at attracting a general New Zealand audience
  • The presentation of new, contemporary works by New Zealand-based artists that strongly reflect a contemporary Asian perspective
  • Presentation of professional artists or arts commentators from Asia in discussions or conversations in a conference or festival context
  • Workshop/education projects that use senior international art form experts from an Asian background and allow for widespread participation.

What can the funding cover?

  • Artist costs, including artist fees, land transfers within New Zealand, international and national travel, freight costs and visa costs.
  • Venue and technical costs for presentation in New Zealand.
  • Some marketing and promotion costs.

The total amount provided will be influenced by the impact and reach the project has with a general New Zealander audience.

Deadline: 19 April 2022
