The aim of Asialink’s Arts Residency Program is to create meaningful and enduring relationships between individuals and organisations in Australia and Asia. Asialink works in partnership with arts residency centres in the region to realise this goal.

Asialink Arts Residencies are professional development opportunities, aimed at being mutually beneficial to both host and resident. This two-way knowledge and skills transfer is emphasized by way of our Reciprocal Residency and Residency Laboratory programs. Outcomes of the program occur immediately and on an ongoing and long-term basis. Since 1991, the Asialink’s Arts Residency Program has created a new generation of Asia-Capable arts professionals.

Eligibility and Guidelines

Applications are welcome from arts professionals who meet the following criteria. If you do not meet these criteria, you are ineligible to apply:

  • Australian citizens or those who have Permanent Residency status

  • A proven record of professional artistic activity over at least three years

  • Residencies are not for academic study or research, paid study leave or ARC-affiliated projects. Students enrolled in tertiary institutions at the time of their proposed residency are not eligible to apply. This includes PhD candidates.

  • Applicants can submit only one application in any given year

  • Former Asialink residents can apply through the ‘Fellowship’ category in the application. Asialink Arts Residency Alumni are eligible to re-apply 5 years following their initial selection eg. A resident in 2009 or earlier can re-apply this year for 2014. The idea of this Fellowship category is to enable past residents to continue the momentum of their previous residency experiences and projects. This does not mean that past residents must apply to the same host as their initial residency.

The minimum and maximum residency periods are 6 weeks and 3 months respectively.

A travel grant of $6,000 - $12,000 is provided to each resident to assist with residency-related expenses including airfares, accommodation, language lessons, living expenses, materials and production costs. The amount awarded is reflective of the residency period.

The grant amount may vary depending on resources provided by the host organisation. Please refer to the host profiles on the Residency Hosts and Models section of Asialink’s website for more details.

Applicants must apply online - see website for all details.

Applications close at 5 pm EST Monday 30 September 2013.
