Belgium | Frans Masereel Centrum residencies 2022
International call open to visual artists, critics and curators for 3-6 week residencies in 2022 at the Frans Masereel Centrum in Belgium, a centre for contemporary art, combining an artist-oriented exhibition and production schedule with an international residency programme for artists and critics, often with a specific focus on printed matter-at-large.
In recent decades, the Frans Masereel Centrum has become one of the most challenging and inspiring environments for contemporary artists to investigate printed matter in all its aspects, or to embrace it as part of a broader artistic practice. Critics, writers, curators and academics also use our facilities, to conduct theoretical research in the private context of a dynamic arts center.
Every year, an international, intergenerational mix of around 50 artists and critics is selected by an external jury. No prior knowledge of printmaking techniques is required.
Artist Residency: Our Artist Residency program welcomes contemporary artists to realize an individual, multiform, print-related project that matches their artistic practice. The focus lies on development and creation in one or more of our workshops.
Essay Residency: Critics, writers, artists, curators and academics can reside at the Centrum Frans Masereel to conduct theoretical research about the medium of printmaking, prepare a critical text on a print-related topic, develop ideas for curatorial projects, etc.
