Concept Touring for performing artists in England and Denmark
caravan (Farnham, England) and ILT Festival (Aarhus, Denmark) are calling for applications from performing artists and companies from England and Denmark to explore innovative, environmentally responsible ways to share their work internationally – without the need for excessive travel – in the Collaborative Learning Initiative on the topic of ‘concept touring’.
As the climate crisis reshapes the way we live, work and create, this initiative, supported by Arts Council England, Arts Council Norway, Julie's Bicycle and the Danish Arts Foundation, offers an opportunity to challenge conventional touring models and experiment with bold alternatives. Participants will embark on an exploratory journey guided by leading thinkers from various industries. Together, participants will generate fresh ideas and conversations for creating meaningful international connections while reducing the carbon footprint.
Over four months, the selected artists will engage in online workshops and seminars and reflect on and evolve their practice in a supportive, collaborative space. Participants will also have the chance to attend a culminating seminar at ILT Festival in Aarhus, Denmark (virtually or in person), to share their insights, discoveries and potential new frameworks for the future of international touring with the wider sector.
Timeline
- 26 February to 26 March 2025: Five 2-hour online sessions
- March to May: additional exploratory sessions (4 hours)
- 22 May: Final hybrid seminar at ILT Festival
- 31 May 2025: Evaluation, report and self-reflection
Support
The funding of 650 GBP per participant (a total of offered to 10 individual artists or collectives) offers financial support to ensure artists can afford the time to focus on exploring new concepts that align with and develop their artistic practice.
