Field Films series call for farmer–filmmakers
Field Films is calling for short films from filmmakers – who are also farmers and land stewards – from Asia and the Pacific Islands for their pilot film series.
Organised by yáo collaborative, Field Films seeks to grow a community of farmers and filmmakers who want to share with each other and a broader audience across geographies, new and old farming practices, healthy food system structures, caring community building models, and many other ways in which land stewardship cultivates long lasting healthy relationships with the land and its community.
This film series is designed to be a distributed series, meaning that it is meant to host multiple satellite screenings instead of one core location. As this programme grows, more screening locations will be added, and in the meantime the series can be screened upon request.
Eligibility
Field Films seeks to foster cross-cultural conversations about food sovereignty in the face of factory farming’s devastating expansion, intergenerational stories from young and older farmers, and indigenous and native ways of knowing that have been historically resilient.
This open call is specifically for short films. Three will be chosen this year, and priority will be given to Asian and Pacific Islander filmmakers and films representing communities in Asia and the Pacific Islands. Applications do not necessarily have to be a farmer or land steward to submit, as long as the film considers the topics listed above.
Support
The films will be posted online at yáo collaborative and available to watch all of September and October 2023. Each artist will receive a USD 150 screening fee.
