The Fondation François Schneider in France calls for entries for its 'Contemporary Talents' competition in all disciplines of the visual arts, proposing works on the theme of art and water, for installation at the foundation's new Art Centre. Both existing art works and project proposals for the site can be submitted.
This competition is open to candidates of all nationalities, all ages, and in the following six disciplines of the plastic arts: painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, photography and video. In the installation and sculpture categories, the artists have the possibility of submitting either existing works or projects. For the four other disciplines, only existing works may be presented.
Dedicated to the creation of plastic art works on a water theme, the Foundation’s aim is to provide a platform each year enabling yet unknown artists to reveal their talent.
Through the “Contemporary Talents” competition, François Schneider wishes to support these creative artists by acquiring their works and showcasing them at the Foundation’s Centre d’Art, currently under construction and entirely dedicated to the meeting of art and water. Situated at the foot of the Vieil Armand memorial site, in the village of Wattwiller in Haut-Rhin, the Centre d’Art will have over 2,000 m² of exhibition space.
Each year, the François Schneider Foundation devotes to the “Contemporary Talents” competition a maximum budget of €300,000, which is divided into two parts:
€150,000 for the acquisition of seven works The candidates chosen will be:
- firstly the prize-winners in the “Contemporary Talents”, one per discipline, therefore a total of six artists who will each receive 20,000 Euros for the acquisition of their work,
- and secondly a work in one of the 6 disciplines, considered by the International Panel of Judges as the most promising, will be awarded the title “Talent d’Eau” (Water Talent). The artist will receive 30,000 Euros for the acquisition of his or her work.
€150,000 for the realisation of the works presented in project form
For the artists who submit their work (installation or sculpture) in project form, the candidatures must include an estimation of the budget required to realise the work (including the cost of transporting and installing the work). These costs will be covered by the Foundation up to the limit of the total budget of €150,000.
The “Contemporary Talents” competition will give rise to a collective exhibition at the Centre d’Art, and a bilingual publication presenting the works of the prize-winners and finalists. Each candidate may only submit one work or one project.
Registration of Contemporary Talents 2013 is open from September 2 2013 to December 15 2013.
