Frieze Writer's Prize 2019
The Frieze Writer's Prize annual international award to discover and promote new art critics is now open for entries.
Since its founding in 1991, frieze magazine has been dedicated to new, imaginative writing about art and culture. We celebrate criticism that is inquisitive, accessible and jargon-free; that engages with the physical complexities of art while situating it firmly within its broader context. Initiated in 2006, the annual Frieze Writer’s Prizerecognizes emerging writers who achieve these qualities in their work. Applicants are invited to submit an unpublished review for consideration by three judges. The winner is commissioned to write a review for frieze and awarded GBP£2,000.
This year’s judges will be writer, curator and frieze contributing editor Osei Bonsu, novelist and critic María Gaínza, and frieze associate editor Evan Moffitt.
To qualify entrants must:
- Submit one unpublished 500-word review of an art exhibition
- Not previously have published more than three pieces of writing on art
- Be over 18 years of age
- Submit their review in English (translations must be acknowledged)
The closing date for entries is 5 August 2019. Entries must be submitted as a Microsoft Word attachment to writersprize@frieze.com. Please do not send images. For further information on the above rules, please see the FAQs page
The winner will be announced on 5 September.
