In line with its expansion plan, George Town World Heritage Inc (GTWHI) is looking for caring and dynamic individuals who would like to contribute towards the mission of GTWHI to promote and preserve the heritage of George Town. 

George Town World Heritage Incorporated (GTWHI) is a company setup by the Penang State Government in April 2010. It is responsible for the management, monitoring and promotion of the George Town World Heritage site.

Position 1: Research Assistant
Responsibilities:

  • Conduct day to day site visit/ field work/ survey and prepare inspection report of George Town World Heritage Sites (GTWHS).

  • Monitoring of construction, renovation, restoration, repair and alteration of properties to ensure proper works in accordance with approved plan and conservation requirements and guidelines in GTWHS.

  • Check on submission of development plans to review specifications for compliance with building codes, zoning activities, and applicable laws on heritage guidelines on conservation.

  • Conduct investigation on complaints and enquiries on conservation issues.

  • Manage operation of GIS program, data entry, and outputs including presentation.

  • Assists in the design, development and creation of databases, maps and other related projects.

  • Provide technical and administrative assistance to team members.


Requirements:

  • Candidate must possess at least a Diploma in Built Environment/ Architecture/ Town Planning/ Building surveyor or equivalent.

  • Minimum 1 year of work experience in related field is required.

  • Familiar with relevant laws, act, regulations and guidelines on heritage conservation will be  an added advantage.

  • Good command of written and spoken Bahasa Malaysia and English. Knowledge in local dialects will be an added advantage.

  • Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office applications, AutoCAD and ArcGIS.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawing, plans, and specifications.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Able to work independently under minimum supervision and work well in a team.

  • Possess own transport.

  • Applicants must be willing to work in George Town.

  • Applicants should be Malaysian citizens or hold relevant residence status.


Position 2: Resource Centre Officer
Responsibilities:

  • Assist in formulation of the resource centre policies, guidelines and procedures.

  • Source and acquire relevant books and materials relating to heritage in consultation with the Resource Centre Committee.

  • Maintain catalogue system, classify and label/tag books, periodicals, publications, magazines, articles, building plans and audio visual materials etc.

  • Maintain inventories of borrowed and returned reference materials by staff members.

  • Respond to daily on-site enquiries, letters, emails for information.

  • Ensure that the resource centre is accessible including assisting and train users to effectively search catalogue and provide research service.

  • Upkeep of resource centre tidiness and functioning of computers and peripherals and security equipment.

  • Keep abreast with new developments in library system, latest publications, periodicals etc.

  • Develop network with other conservation resource centres and archive databases worldwide.

  • Assist to promote the use of resource centre through talks, newsletters, brochures, posters, activities, etc.

  • Provide regular statistical reports on the functioning and use of the resource centre.


Requirements:

  • Minimum Diploma in Library, Information Management or equivalent.

  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in library or resource centre development and management.

  • Good knowledge of international cataloguing and classification standards.

  • Required language(s) spoken & written: English, Bahasa Malaysia. Knowledge in Mandarin and Chinese dialects will be an added advantage.

  • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Commitment towards quality service and the aim of the resource centre.

  • Applicants must be willing to work in George Town.

Position 3: Personal Assistant to General Manager
Responsibilities:

  • Provide efficient day to day secretarial and administrative support to General Manager.

  • Arrange, schedule and prioritize appointments and meetings to enhance effective time management including update calendar and set up of meeting room.

  • Maintain confidentiality and interact professionally with all levels of management, staff and stakeholders.

  • Answer and screen incoming telephone calls, handle enquiries and requests, take messages, or transfer calls to appropriate individuals.

  • Coordinate submission of documents etc. to ensure all relevant information are provided prior to appointments and meetings.

  • Travel and accommodation arrangement e.g. visa application, flight and hotel reservations and prepare claims.

  • Prepare business correspondences, memos, faxes, minutes of meetings, speeches, presentation materials, reports and internal communication messages.

  • Maintain a systematic filing system of hard and soft copies and safe keeping of important documents.

  • Assist in administration, HR, organizing internal and external events.

  • Undertake special assignments, add-hoc functions and related duties as and when required.


Requirements:

  • Candidate must possess at least a Professional Certificate, Advanced/Higher Diploma in Secretarial/Administration/Management/Business Studies or equivalent.

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant working experience is required for this position.

  • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook.

  • Good in writing, communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Good command of both written and spoken English & Bahasa Malaysia. Knowledge in Mandarin is added advantage.

  • Strong coordination, initiative, independent, able to multi-task and work extended hours.

  • Matured, pleasant personality and able to maintain confidentiality.

  • Able to negotiate at all levels and deal with sensitive and confidential matters with tact and discretion.
