Indonesia | Translocal Performance Lab 2025 for Southeast Asian artists

Djakarta International Theatre Platform (DITP) 2025 are calling for applications from artists in Southeast Asia working in performance and contemporary theatre practices for the BELALANG \\ CÀO CÀO: Translocal Performance Lab, from 24 July to 13 August 2025 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
DITP is initiated by the Theatre Committee of the Jakarta Arts Council. For its 2025–2028 edition, DITP will focus on the Southeast Asian region by adopting the geopolitical concept of 'Bumantara,' coined by Indonesian intellectual Sutan Takdir Alisjahbana in 1975.
Facilitated by contemporary theatre and performance makers from the Southeast Asia region, the Lab aims at holding a space for exploring intercultural/collaborative frameworks and tools of seeing, sensing, thinking, sharing, and staging within as well as beyond the inter-Southeast Asia connection. The process-orientated collaboration strives for mapping various issues, discourses, needs, and current initiatives in theatre and performance in the region, particularly regarding how different local elements and knowledge gaps intertwine and evolve in collaborative exchange practices.
Within the Lab, the participants will encounter various exchanges, conversation, co-learning, performance watching and experimentation which will lead to a performative open studio presented in the framework of DITP: Bumantara 2025 (5 to 13 August), developed in conversation with the Lab’s facilitators, the festival’s curators and organising team.
What the Lab offers:
- Process-based collaboration and experimentation with peers and interdisciplinary mentors in theatre-making from Southeast Asia
- Immersion in Southeast Asia’s vibrant theatre ecosystems
- Fully funded, with access to logistics including artist fee, per diem, flights, accommodation, and opportunity for public showcase within the framework of DITP 2025
