Inhabitant Zero research residency in Sweden
Inhabitant Zero is a competition where five individuals or teams are selected to become Kvarnbacken’s first inhabitants. The project is an international a call for proposals . The selected teams will be granted a stipend of €4000 and shall live in “The Yellow House” in the suburb of Jarfalla in Stockholm for a month to produce a research project. What is it like to live in a different country in a development before it is developed?
Within the near future, the area around Kvarnbacken will be developed with new accommodations, which in turn will be populated by new inhabitants. Today however, there’s only one house by the hill – “The Yellow House”, which was once the home of the miller, but has been empty for the last few decades. Technically, this makes Kvarnbacken ‘deserted’ – but that’s about to change.
The competition Inhabitant Zero are looking for participants within the area of art, design, architecture, immigration politics, sociology, archaeology, literature and much more. The winning proposals will be picked by an international jury which consists of Joseph Grima, architect, curator and director IDEAS CITY, Chus Martinez, Head of the institute of art at FHNW Academy of Art & Design, Basel and Ingo Niermann , writer, novelist and artist.
The winning residents or teams are required to keep four open studio days total and to have a final exhibition of the work produced during the residency.
“Kalejdohill imagines a future community, where curious, proactive and involved inhabitants have created the places where they live. But what is it really like to live in a place before its built? And in that case, what is it like to be the very first inhabitant? There are many questions to be asked, but there are also many answers – and we want to find out what those answers are through ‘Inhabitant Zero’.” Andreas Angelidakis, Creative Leader, Kalejdohill
Deadline for applications: November 15
