Japan | Dance Box residencies
DANCE BOX residency programme in Kobe region, Japan is seeking applications from artists, scholars and curators who pursue work in the field of dance. Residencies are open to artists who reside outside Japan.
The DANCE BOX residency programs are implemented in cooperation with our partners Art Theater dB KOBE, Studio dB Kobe, Studio dB Kobe-loft and Mizuru RB (Yashima Art Port). We place primary emphasis on experimentation and the rehearsal process rather than focusing on the end result of the artists’ production.
Artist will stay either Kobe or Maizuru for 35 days and work on creation activities. Then the artists present their work as a result of this program in both Kobe and Maizuru. This exhibition will take place in Red Brick Warehouse in Maizuru from March 11-17 and in Dance Box, Kobe March 18-24.
The programme is open to artists who reside outside Japan. The organisers prioritize selection of applications from artists who will use the time to refine the style of creation, or work on creative activities and conduct a research which investigates the city of Shin-Nagata and Maizuru specifically and reflects a larger curiosity about Japanese society and culture. They hope the selected artist to be a person who is trouble-free and capable of working with local people, staff and assistants.
