Japan | Paradise Air Longstay Residency Programme 2023
PARADISE AIR is calling for applications from artists, curators, researchers and other practitioners from all over the world for their Longstay residency programme in Matsudo, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, from October to December 2023.
This 10th edition of the programme explores the theme Puzzling Poly+Semy. The outcome of the residency can take tangible or intangible form. PARADISE AIR welcomes applications not only from outside of Japan, but also those currently residing in Japan. The residency can be from 70 to 90 days.
Residency conditions include the following:
- Enjoy engaging in dialogue with the town
- Currently live and work in the wider arts field, contributing to the contemporary creation of art
- Be willing and able to engage in genuine cultural exchange with other resident artists and local residents
- Be in good physical and mental health
- Have flexibility regarding programme scheduling, rules, and administration
- Be able to conduct everyday conversation in Japanese and/or English
Support offered
- Production costs of video letter: 30,000 JPY per group (for selected finalists)
- Accommodation (PARADISE AIR)
- Transportation for one round trip from the artist’s place of residence to Matsudo
- 200,000 JYP for production costs per group
- Per diem: 3,000 JPY x number of days of residence
- Costs associated with equipment and transportation of artwork
- Arrangement of venues for the presentation of work and coordination of events
- Local support for daily life and production of work
- Arrangement of transportation to Matsudo and supply information on current regulations for entering the country
- Costs associated with publicity
