Latvia | RIXC Risk Change residency call
RIXC's 'Risk Change' Residency programme welcomes applications from artists resident in Europe who are critically exploring the topics of migration and ecology, approached from diverse perspectives such as: experimenting with new immersive technologies, participatory media and critical art practices, exploring the potential of interdisciplionary practices on the edge of art and science, and contributing towards building a new discourse of 'techno-ecological' art.
Professional artists are invited to apply for a one-month residency, taking place between November 2019 and 31 March 2020. Applicants should be resident in Europe, and RIXC particularly welcomes applications from South, Central and Eastern Europe and from the Baltic states (Estonia, Lithuania).
The main base of the residency is RIXC Laboratory in Riga, Latvia where there's free access to WiFi, a shared workspace equipped with facilities for AR/VR/360-video production, sound and video editing, and digital fabrication equipment (3D printer, CNC, laser cutter).
However, for the artists to have more suitable conditions to work with environment, ecology and field studies, the organisers offer a unique possibility to spend part of the residency time in the new RIXC Rural Lab (in the Latvian countryside, 100km from Riga).
Expected results of the residency include VR, acoustic immersive environments, 360 degree video, or interactive work, which can be shown in the RIXC gallery at the close of the residency.
Applications are welcomed from both established and emerging artists, with preference given to applications in which artists express their interest in exhibiting their work, getting engaged with local communities, conducting workshops, getting involved in RIXC activities and with the local scene, and/or visiting our partner spaces offering other Baltic residencies. Artistic groups are welcome if they are willing to share the conditions including the accommodation.
Digital artists from Europe are offered:
- A scholarship of 500 EUR for the one-month residency
- A project production/materials budget of 500 EUR
- Free accommodation
- Travel expenses up to 350 EUR, or up to 30 EUR for artists from Estonia and Lithuania.
