Mongolia | 9th Ulaanbaatar International Media Art Festival
The 9th edition of the Ulaanbaatar International Media Art Festival is calling for applications for the festival, which will take place from 6 to 19 May 2024. In this edition, the media art festival will be organised under the theme ‘Seeing is Believing’ in collaboration with German curator Inga Seidler.
In the course of advancing digitisation, as new techniques of image generation emerge, the exchange of images has become almost as natural as the exchange of spoken or written language. However, images are not only gaining in importance in everyday communication; world views and insights are now more than ever generated and communicated through images. They are potent instruments for influencing public opinion and cultural (self-) perception.
Do we believe what we see? It is increasingly becoming evident that seeing and being seen are not ‘natural’ actions, but cultural constructions that are learned and refined. ‘Seeing is Believing’, the main exhibition of the Ulaanbaatar International Media Art Festival, considers the impact of digital technologies on the way we see, understand, and interact with the world.
The curator this year, Inga Seidler, lives and works as a curator and cultural producer in Berlin. Since 2020, she has curated the exhibition programmes of the European Media Art Festival at Kunsthalle Osnabrück. Also, she has been a member of several committees for artist in residency programmes and cultural institutions, and is a jury member for the Hauptstadtkulturfonds. In recent years, she has developed, produced and curated exhibitions, performances, discourse programmes and digital projects.
Artists who wish to participate must send their information to program@artscouncil.mn with the following details:
- Brief introduction of the artist (up to 150 words)
- Briefly describe the idea of the artwork
