Mongolia | The Nomadic Arts Residency 2023
The Nomadic Arts Residency (NAR), established by the Arts Council Mongolia (ACM), calls for applications from international artists for the residency programme at MARS /Mongolian Artist Residency Studios between August and October 2023.
The ACM established the nomadic residency, in collaboration with MARS, to provide arts residency to international artists in the countryside of Mongolia in order to promote cultural exchange, introduce Mongolian culture and art internationally, and exchange experiences as part of the goal of expanding international cooperation in the field of arts and culture.
The residency is one to two months long, based on the artist proposed timeline. MARS is located at a unique location in Sergelen Soum, Tuv aimag, 7 km from the international airport, and is a compact village surrounded by herders and local families, 45 kilometres south of the capital city Ulaanbaatar.
NAR will select up to 5 artists to do a residency. They will be provided with accommodation, internet, working space, nomadic lifestyle, meetings with Mongolian artists and arts community representatives, tour in the countryside, and other networking opportunities. (There is a fee of 100 USD per day to participate.)
Duration of residency
- 1–2 months
- Maximum of 3 artist at the same time
- Between 1 August and 1 October 2023 (other dates in only by discussion with the residency)
Who can apply
Open to contemporary artists, regardless of gender and nationality, working in all mediums.

MARS was first established as an Artist Run Initiative in 2019 by practising artist Ganbold Lundaa. MARS is working in partnership with ACM (Art Council of Mongolia) and Blue Sun (Khukh Nar) CACM (Contemporary Art Centre Mongolia) and local art initiatives, galleries and organisations.
