Musawah Artists Collective online programme for young Muslim women in Southeast Asia
The Musawah Artists Collective (MAC) is calling for applications from young Muslim women in Southeast Asia for their 4-month, non-residential, online programme, from March to June 2024.
The programme
The programme is designed for artists, to create new spaces and to re-imagine how to get to a world where justice for Muslim women starts with equality in the family. Applicants will propose a framework and outline of their project during the programme, based on one of Musawah’s Principal Areas of Concern:
- Woman’s Ability to Consent into Marriage
- Child Marriage
- Marriage Vow
- Polygamy
- Divorce
- Custody Rights
Depending on the stream, artists will produce one of the following: a documentary (4 mins max), visual art product (single or series, such as painting, photography, printmaking), or a short story (1,200 – 5,000 words).
Artists will also participate in one online group workshop every month and a maximum two-hour mentoring session every month from March to June 2024. They are also encouraged to participate in an online event in July 2024 organised by Musawah to celebrate the final submission of the artworks.
MAC will share selected completed works on their website and/or social media platforms. The artworks will also be used for advocacy. MAC will provide in-kind funding in the form of post-production editing.
Eligibility
This programme is open to citizens and permanent residents of the following countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Bangladesh.
Applicants must be emerging women artists between ages of 22 and 30 and they should demonstrate interest in human rights, specifically on equality and justice in the Muslim family, and Muslim women’s issues.
