Nanjing International Writers Residency 2023
Nanjing, China, is offering 6 residencies to writers, poets and translators from all UNESCO Cities of Literature, for two weeks in late October 2023.
The theme for 2023 programme is "Urban Life and Literature". Nanjing takes the 6 residents to explore a panorama of contemporary life in the historical city, including literary events, reading clubs, cultural adventures, city walks, random encounters and meetings and more.
What they offer
- 2-week in-person residency in Nanjing City of Literature
- Flight tickets, food, accommodation and local transport
- A stipend of 1,200 USD for each writer
- Tours to culture landmarks and literary places in Nanjing
- A selection of local literary activities
- Dialogue with Nanjing writers, poets, translators, literary organisations, and students
Selected participants will:
- Be connected to a UNESCO City of Literature
- Have at least 3 years of experience in writing, or at least one published work, or have received recognised awards
- Be willing to interact with Nanjing’s literary communities
- Write a piece of work in English (no less than 1,000 words, or 50 lines for poetry) that is inspired by the residency, or translate Chinese stories, poems or prose into English
- Be fluent in spoken English or Chinese
