Norway | Kjerringøy Land Art Biennale 2024 call
K-Lab calls for applications from professional, international artists to make site-specific land art projects in Kjerringøy, Northern Norway. The six to eight artists will be selected to plan and develop a site-specific work of art to be presented as part of the 9th Kjerringøy Land Art Biennale, during the European Capital of Culture 2024 in Bodø.
For the first time K-Lab is initiating a two-year project, during which each selected artist will have two sessions onsite:
- Artist in Residence: 1 May – 25 June 2023
- Kjerringøy Land Art Biennale: 1 June – 5 July 2024
K-Lab’s aim is to create an environment where artists find inspiration and inspire others, and the emphasis is on studying and working in and with the landscape.
Each selected artist can choose between several sites around Kjerringøy. As part of the first stay the artists will be able to participate in two workshops with professional traditional craftspeople. K-Lab also expects each successful artist to prepare a public presentation.
About the proposed project
The Biennale is an interdisciplinary initiative that explores ecology and a mindful interaction with nature. The proposed project should interact with the place and the natural materials available there.
The activities should not contain any artificial materials and should be made in mindful ways with respect for the place and its inhabitants. The proposed work should integrate with the landscape or be temporary and gradually decompose.
Support
K-Lab will meet travel costs, accommodation and an artist fee, as well as providing other opportunities for income (such as fees for workshops and artist talks). K-Lab also hopes to be able to pay each artist for some studio time at home, between the two periods in Kjerringøy.
Deadline: 23 May 2022
K-Lab is an artist-run, international, interdisciplinary and site-specific platform established in 2007 for art in and with the landscape.
