Romania | Tandem Fellowship 2023 for writers and translators from Black Sea Region
New Europe College (NEC) – Institute for Advanced Study in Romania is calling for applications from writers and translators from the Black Sea Region for their new Tandem fellowship programme in Bucharest, Romania.
The aim of the programme is to promote authors from the Black Sea Region by encouraging the translation of their work into the local languages. Moreover, the programme will deepen and disseminate the knowledge in and about the literary landscapes around the Black Sea.
The fellowship programme targets writers and translators from: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine. Applicants from the Baltics or the Western Balkans may be considered under special circumstances (including those from the ASEM nations of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania).
The fellowship starts in May 2023.
Tandem offers fellowships consisting of:
- A residence (2–5 months in total) at New Europe College in Bucharest for a Tandem team (author and translator)
- A monthly stipend for each Tandem participant (850 EUR each)
- Travel and accommodation
- Workspace and office equipment
- Assistance with visa procedures, residence permit, access to local institutions (libraries), etc.
Additional funds for working materials, for small public events, possibly even for a publication, may be granted depending on the case.
Conditions:
The writer (novelist, poet, playwright, children’s or nonfiction author) and his or her translator are in residence at the NEC at the same time and stay for at least 2 consecutive months and maximum 5 months.
The Tandem team (author and translator) can indicate a preferred period for their residency. However, the exact period of the residency shall be agreed upon together with NEC.
