None salzburg1207

The Salzburg International Summer Academy of Fine Arts, founded in 1953 by Oskar Kokoschka as the "School of Vision", in Hohensalzburg Fortress, is the oldest of its kind in Europe. The Salzburg Summer Academy is open for applications with various participation grants offered.

Every year, some 300 participants from more than 40 countries attend some 20 courses offered in two fixed locations: Hohensalzburg Fortress and the Kiefer quarry in Fürstenbrunn, as well as in further temporary spaces. Well-known artists from all over the world offer courses and workshops focusing on painting, drawing, graphic arts, (stone) sculpture, installation, mixed media, video, photography, performance and curatorial practice.

The Salzburg Summer Academy is open to anyone interested. Prospective participants submit to an application process in which the teaching artists select their students.  The number of rejections is very small, however, despite a proportion of some two-thirds professionals (artists and art students).

Check the 2014 Course Programme and participating artists. The 2014 Summer Academy offers 21 courses of between one and four weeks during the period 21 July - 30 August.

Some 90 grants, usually covering participation fees only, are available for participation in one of the classes at the Summer Academy.

The closing date for all GRANT applications is 1 April 2014.

Course applications for self-funded participants may continue after this date, normally up to 15 May- read more
