Sweden | 2023 communal residency at hybrida.space

hybrida.space is calling for applications from visual artists for a residency in Älvsbacka (Sweden) from 22 May to 23 July 2023.

The residency revolves around the question "How can we, as a group, set collective goals and self-organise in ways that prioritise both individual creativity and communality?".

The whole group will shape the residency programme together, starting with a few preparatory meetings online in which everyone will work out how they will organise and work together during the period in Sweden. The residency is focused on these aspects:

  • Production of individual art projects
  • Organisation of a communal household
  • Co-defining the curatorial framework and envisioning the final exhibition

Residents will live and work on location for eight weeks, and work towards a final exhibition that will be open to the public for two weeks.

Applications

hybrida.space is looking for applicants that have graduated from higher studies in visual arts or equivalent fields, or have a professional art practice for more than three years. Duos can also apply but they have to be prepared to share a room and the budget/fees.

There are eight open spots for the residency period for 2023. Four of them are reserved for artists from the following Nordic countries: Denmark, Finland, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Åland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. International artists residing in these countries are also eligible.

The residency covers costs for living conditions and housing during the whole period:

  • Travel expenses covered up to 5,000 SEK
  • Freight covered up to 1,500 SEK
  • Production budget up to 5,000 SEK
  • Participation remuneration will be disclosed during online interviews

Note that the housing standards are basic and unrenovated.
