Sweden | Jårrh! residency for Indigenous choreography and movement artists
Aejlies and Riksteatern are calling for applications from Indigenous artists worldwide who work with choreography and movement for the residency programme Jårrh!, in the Sámi cultural landscape of Dearna (Tärnaby), Sweden. The residency duration can be two to four weeks between 18 August and 31 October 2025.
The residency aims to provide artists with the opportunity to develop their artistic ideas and practice within a secure Indigenous setting. Artists can work in peace, immerse themselves in the mountainous landscape, and connect with the local culture and community. The ambition is to create an ideal environment for artistic exploration, while also facilitating enriching exchanges with the local community and arts scene.
The residency does not require the creation of a final piece or performance, but the organisers look forward to planning some form of public engagement during the residency.
Eligibility
Applications are open to Indigenous artists worldwide who are solo artists or groups of collaborators. If artists wish to bring family members, they can discuss possible arrangements.
Support
The residency provides accommodation, nearby workspaces (including a dance studio, craft rooms, and more), a project coordinator to facilitate connections with the local community and others nearby, a weekly fee of 12,500 SEK plus VAT, funds for other stay-related costs, and travel expenses to and from the residency site.
Deadline: 26 January 2025
