Tartu UNESCO City of Literature 2023 residency

Tartu UNESCO City of Literature is calling for applications from international writers and translators (from Estonian to other languages) for their 2-month residency programme, from April to May 2023.

What the residency offers

  • A 2-month stay at a one-bedroom apartment in Supilinn (Soup Town)
  • A scholarship of 600 EUR per month
  • Compensation of travel costs to and from Tartu up to 350 EUR
  • An opportunity engage with the cultural scene of Tartu and to perform at different events, including Tartu International Literary Festival Prima Vista

Applicants are expected to have:

  • An upper intermediate level of spoken English or Estonian
  • At least one published book (fiction or non-fiction), screenplay, theatre script or translation from Estonian into another language by the applicant
  • An interest in Estonian culture and literature
  • A readiness to participate in the local literary life, including events, meetings, interviews, festivals
