Toshiba International Foundation (TIFO) is calling for applications from organisations with year-long projects that focus on international understanding of Japanese culture.

TIFO supports projects that promote understanding of Japan and divides them into four categories that focus on symposia and seminars, cultural programmes, research and studies, and programmes to foster future experts.

Projects, or a discrete part of a continuing project, need to be completed between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2026. Multi-year projects can apply for support for three consecutive years.

The entire amount of grant must be used for the execution of the awarded project purpose only. TIFO grant amounts are determined on the basis of specific estimate contained in applications, and grant funds shall not to be used to pay for any costs other than those expressly detailed in the application.

Support

The grant amount can vary depending on the project content, but the approximate amount is several hundred thousand to 1.5 million JPY.

The grant can be used for a wide range of project-related purposes, for example, venue fees, material preparation costs, speakers' travel costs including airfare, accommodation expenses, honoraria for speakers, networking meeting expenses, material production costs, communication costs, printing costs, etc. However, indirect expenses such as personnel salaries and office rent are not included.
