The Royal British Society of Sculptors is inviting applications from all sculptors new to public art for the 2011 First@108 Public Art Award. This is a professional development programme resulting in two solo exhibitions in London and £10,000 towards the production costs of the winner's work. FIRST@108 is an award designed to offer Sculptors an opportunity to extend their practice into competing for public art commissions.

The award is open to Sculptors of any age and nationality working in any style or media who have yet to be recognised as practitioners in public art. This is interpreted to mean that you will not yet have won an open (or closed) competition for a commission to create a work for a public space above the value of £15,000. For those who have received formal training the expectation is that they will have a minimum of three years post education practice.

Artists are invited to create an innovative work on the theme of ‘transition’ for temporary exhibition in two different locations. This theme is intentionally open to broad and diverse interpretation.
