Vienna | Artist in Residence Programmes | open call

None

A programme of Artists in Residence opportunities is offered in Vienna for 2014, in visual arts, art photography, video and media art, design, composition, literature, contemporary dance and choreography, also open to arts educators and curators.

A total of 50 residencies in the fields of fine arts, artistic photography, design, video and media art, composition, literature and literary translation, contemporary dance and choreography will be available, open to artists whose place of residence is outside Austria.  The residencies vary in length from one to three months, depending on the art field; the selection of the grant winners is made by several juries consisting of renowned experts from the respective fields.  There are age limitations (under 35 or 40, depending on arts discipline - see guidelines)

The chosen Artists in Residence can expect an ideal setting in which to work intensively on artistic projects. They are provided with living accommodations either in an annex of Schloss Laudon, a baroque palace surrounded by a park in Vienna’s 14th district, or in more central apartments located in Vienna’s 3rd and 9th districts. Two communal studios are also available for the artists’ use. Besides a monthly allowance of EUR 800 for living expenses and a subsidy of EUR 300 for material costs in the fields of fine arts, artistic photography, design, video and media art and composition, Artists in Residence are also provided with prepaid mobile phones and Internet access. At the end of their residency, they are given an opportunity to present their works in an exhibition.

In addition to working on their own art projects, networking with the Austrian arts scene is an integral part of each Artist in Residence’s sojourn in Vienna. For this reason, the programme also offers visits to galleries, ateliers, museums etc. and provides contacts to the scenes of literature and publishing and access to musical life in Vienna. As often as possible, the Artists in Residence are given free tickets to art fairs, book fairs, performances at Tanzquartier Wien, the "ImPulsTanz" international dance festival and other events. Also, if they wish to do so, all Artists in Residence have the possibility of participating actively in KulturKontakt Austria’s "Artists in Residence Go To School” programme by holding readings or leading workshops for pupils at schools in Austria.

The call for applications for the new Artists in Residence Programme 2014 - deadline for applications 31 May 2013.
