Artist residencies in Cambodia, Thailand and Viet Nam for French writers and photographers

The French Institute of Cambodia (IFC) is calling for applications from writers and photographers from France for their cross-residency programme ‘La Route des residencies’.

The programme is co-organised by the French Institute of Cambodia, the French Institute of Viet Nam and the Alliance Française of Chiang Mai and the writing residency programme ‘Villa Marguerite Duras’.

The 2024 edition of these programmes will be dedicated to welcoming:

  • An author residing between Villa Marguerite Duras (Cambodia) and Villa Chiang Mai (Thailand) for a stay of 8 to 12 weeks, divided equally between the two countries, between 3 June and 25 August 2024;
  • A photographer working on the relationship between photography and writing residing between Villa Marguerite Duras (Cambodia) and Villa Saigon (Viet Nam) for a stay of 8 to 12 weeks divided equally between the two countries, between 16 September and 24 November 2024;
  • An author residing at Villa Marguerite Duras (Cambodia) for a stay of 4 to 8 weeks, between 3 June and 28 July 2024.

The authors are expected to produce a text/graphic novel text which will be translated into Khmer in a dedicated collection, entitled ‘The Outside World: Outside’, in reference to the eponymous work by Marguerite Duras (a non-exclusive transfer of rights will be requested for publication).

In addition to being published in the same collection ‘The Outside World: Outside’, the photographers are expected to participate in the Photo Phnom Penh 2024 festival as part of a collective exhibition, the costs of which will be covered by the IFC.

Accommodation and travel will be provided, as well as a 400 EUR honorarium and up to 400 EUR for the project in Viet Nam or Thailand. In addition, fees will be paid for the work produced for the publication.
